Controversy

Arvind Jagganath Bane a former BJP corporator from Mumbai had alleged that Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha paid Rs. 200 Cr to the BJP party fund in order to buy the post of a minister in the Maharashtra government. He wrote a written complaint to PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah and the Governor of Maharashtra urging them not to make Lodha a minister as he is a cheat and a land grabber.

Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha’s firm has also been caught in controversy, they have been accused of wilfully evading stamp duty payments worth Rs 473 Cr on their New Cuffe Parade project in Mumbai. On August 1, 2011, MMRDA and Lodha Crown Buildmart entered into an “agreement to lease” for the plot, where the latter was “permitted to enter upon the plot as a bare licensee for erecting buildings and no other purpose until the formal grant of lease”. Both sides had agreed that a lease deed will be executed after completion of the entire work.

It pointed out that the firm had already sold 1,000 apartments in the project, and has raised loans on it. “The developer has already created third-party right and interests on the property,” a senior official said. “He has not acted as a bare licensee. We are treating the document as a development agreement, on which 5 per cent duty on consideration value is chargeable.”

Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha was also accused by Dombivali resident Sadanand Sante as being a habitual land grabber. Mr Sante alleges that Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha has grabbed 2 acres of his land near Kolegaon, Dombivali (East) worth Rs. 15 Crore. He alleges that Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha managed to get his power of attorney and the land valued at Rs 4 Crore. He took this matter to PM Narendra Modi while he was campaigning in Kalyan and even though action was promised none was taken.
