Vidya Thakur is currently a resident of Malad and lives in a joint family where her four brothers and their respective families reside. She became a well known personality in her constituency due to her social work efforts to improve the community. 

Career

Vidya Thakur entered politics in 1992 when she became a BMC corporator. She joined the BJP party and was appointed as the General Secretary of the BJP Mumbai Mahila Morcha. In 2007, she was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Mumbai but with a little bit of luck and the Modi wave, she won the elections from Goregaon and became an MLA in the Devendra Fadnavis ministry. She is also the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Food and Drugs Administration for Maharashtra.

Controversy
