Controversy
Adv. Parag Alvani's and his wife Corporator Jyoti Alavani were both dragged into controversy over a BMC garden that was constructed at Malvia road, Vile Parle (East). While local residents wanted the garden to be named after prominent Marathi writer, actor, director and music composer P.L Deshpande, Adv. Parag Alvani and his wife were keen to associate the park with some businessman or industrialist. Locals also allege that every morning the park was closed to the public in order to facilitate RSS shakas.
Adv. Parag Alvani was also an accused in the stabbing of a of another student politician Owen D’Souza. He was acquitted of all charges and in an interview with the Hindustan Times he said, “The NSUI decided to pin the blame for murder on me to hide the fact that one of their district presidents was killed due to his ties with underworld,” alleged Alavani. “When the case reached hearing stage, the police had nothing against me. I could have sought a discharge, but instead I preferred the acquittal,” he said.
