Controversy

Prakash Mehta has been caught up in serious graft accusations regarding the Slum Redevelopment Authority which he supervised as the housing minister of Maharashtra. Mehta has sanctioned an irregular SRA proposal which allowed extra building rights granted to slum dwellers at M P Mill Compound in Tardeo to be transferred to a scheme to project-affected people although there is no such provisons in the development control rules which would have resulted in generation of building rights more than 500 crores.

Prakash Mehta was also additional director on a company called ‘Sai Nidhi Pvt Ltd’ which was listed with the Ministry of Corporate affairs. Two buildings Laxmi Bhuvan and Gopal Bhuvan were developed under the slum rehabilitation scheme. The actual tenants of the demolished chawls are yet to get their flats. But Prakash Mehta's son's name Harsh Mehta is seen in the list of the tenants and has even got flat. Some other relatives of Prakash Mehta are also named in the list of bogus tenants.
