He started out as a member of the RSS during his school days and has held many distinguished posts within the BJP during his career these being Maharashtra State Unit Spokesperson, Mumbai Unit chief and Chairman of the Mumbai Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

Controversy

Madhu Chavan has an FIR filed against him for rape. A lady who was a staffer of his in his Chipun district institute claimed that Madhu Chavan had been regularly assaulting her between 2002-2007 and had falsely promised to marry her. She loged a complaint with the local police station to which no action was taken. She finally gained reprive when the court ordered the police to look into the matter after she filed an RTI. Madhu Chavan alleges that this woman has done this before in 2012 and 2017 and that the police found no merit in the matter.
